August is one of the best times of the year to visit the Twin Cities farmers markets. With picking season in full-swing for many vegetables, you won’t have any problem finding farm-fresh produce for your favorite recipes. Not only do these Twin Cities farmers markets have local fruits and vegetables, you can also find meats, eggs, cheeses, coffee, bakery items, local artists, and entertainment to make the experience even grander.

The Minneapolis Farmers Market is the biggest Twin Cities farmers market and the largest open-air farmers market throughout the upper Midwest. Many people travel from all over the region to experience the delicious smells and the inviting atmosphere that sweeps up and down the isles. Open daily, you will always have access to the freshest produce in the Twin Cities. On Saturday and Sunday all the vendors are open for business, which leads to the busiest days at the market.

This market offers so much more than just fresh produce. Many local artists and makers, food vendors, and flowers line the streets allowing you to make this a great morning activity with friends and family! 

Parking is available for free in the lots across from the market. However, this parking area fills up fast, especially on the weekends, so get there early! When the lots are full, there is plenty of street parking nearby.

Mill City Farmers Market

The Mill City Farmers Market is located downtown Minneapolis next to the Guthrie Theater. Every Saturday the area is brought to life with over 100 local farmers, food makers, and artists. In-season, fresh produce is brought in for you to access easily downtown and use throughout the week. Not only is the produce amazing, but so are the variety of other vendors that sell meat, dairy, honey, maple syrup, and more! 

On the first Saturday of every month, local chefs host live demos with food found right in the market. You may even get to sample some of the food they are cooking right in front of you! Grab an early lunch from one of the many food trucks or tents and listen to the local musicians performing. 

Before you leave, make sure to explore the historic Mill City area and then head down to the river. The historic Stone Arch Bridge is steps away, where you will find magnificent views of the dam and city. 

Parking can be found in either of the two parking ramps directly across from the market. Metered parking is available on the streets near the entrance to the market as well.

Saint Paul Farmers Market

If you are in the Lowertown neighborhood of Saint Paul on Saturday or Sunday, check out the Saint Paul Farmers Market located in the heart of downtown. 

This community event brings in only seasonally fresh produce. Everything at the Saint Paul Farmers Market is grown locally within a 50 mile radius. This ensures you are getting only the freshest produce Minnesota has to offer! 

Not only can you pick up fresh produce, you can find a variety of locally made items like kettle corn, canned goods, flowers, coffee, pastries, and honey.

Live music even plays around the market by local artists as you shop!

Northeast Minneapolis Farmers Market

Northeast Farmers Market

In the heart of the Arts District is the Northeast Farmers Market. Northeast hosts three unique farmers markets within their community throughout the year. 

The Saturday market is open spring through fall where all the farmers bring their in-season produce for the community every week. Local syrups, jams, honey, and cheeses are always available for purchase in addition to the abundance of produce.

Make sure to come to the market on an empty stomach so you can grab some of the delicious food and drinks that are being made right on site by local vendors!  

Musicians are scheduled each Saturday throughout the entire farmers market season to bring an uplifting vibe to the community. 

This market is also very family-friendly! Children have their very own children’s tent at the market. Each week, volunteers host activities that are educational, market-related, and fun for kids of all ages.

With over 50,000 visitors a year, the Midtown Farmers Market is another “must visit” for the Twin Cities farmers markets. This market truly has something for everyone!

Music, art, and diverse booths make up the farmers market, giving you an awesome experience as you pick out your groceries. Grab a snack from one of the amazing food vendors as you browse all the fresh produce you may need for your meals.
